Winter Cabin in the Woods
Nestled Inn The Woods is a charming log cabin located (in the woods) in Waynesville, North Carolina.
Waynesville is about 35 minutes West of Asheville, and is a great spot for a hiking trip or secluded long weekend get away. We chose the latter, since the bf and I were feeling like a well deserved relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of our busy, tech filled lives.
Immediately upon arrival to the Inn, we were enchanted - before we even made it up the moss covered stairs to the cabin itself.
I mean not enchanted by some cloven hooved evil sorceress hiding in the forest or anything. Rather, the setting was just super cute & the short walk up the (bear themed) lamppost lit stairs made us feel like we were embarking onto a fairytale weekend away.
The first night in, we got settled & explored the inside of the cabin - which completely mesmerized us with the warm and cozy feel, thoughtful details, and adorable touches like local hand soap, robes & slippers.
And - as much as we were excited to be secluded for a few days, we were happy to find the cabin also had modern conveniences such as a gas fireplace and dishwasher.
The cabin was two bedrooms and two full baths. We settled on sleeping in the first floor bedroom since I was still having flashbacks from when I fell down the stairs last week at home. Please don’t ask - I blame it on the wool socks my brother got me for Christmas.
I think he’s trying to kill me.
(Note: the bed was nicely made when we first arrived
(the wrinkles were from unpacking in the first bedroom,
and then realizing the was an entire other (just as adorable bedroom)).
So anyway - we planned ahead and brought a ton of groceries with us; so made up some sammiches Friday night, relaxed by the fireplace in the living room, and read the welcome book (which explained pretty much everything we needed to know about the Cabin).
Saturday was a (much needed) lazy lounge day. We slept in, had some fruit for breakfast, napped, talked, napped some more.
After all the napping - we enjoyed some afternoon coffee and reading on the front porch of the cabin which was OMG so peaceful and relaxing, the stream that ran across the front of the cabin gave off such a beautiful bubbling ambient noise.
And, the frolicking geese and sheep in the adjacent pasture were a delight to watch and listen to.
Saturday evening we ventured over to Waynesville Pizza Co. to pick up a nomz “Farmers Market” Pizza (with vegan cheese) to enjoy by the fireplace while we played card games over a couple cocktails.
Sunday morning we slept in (again) and then ventured into historic DT Waynesville to check our Panacea Coffee House Café & Roastery. It was soooo adorable. We got a couple Red Eyes and a bag of gourmet coffee take home.
It’s was a super cute spot, the coffee was delicious, and (bonus!) no one seemed to care that I was wearing my wool socks paired with glitter Birkenstock’s ensemble.
Yes - those same wool socks that caused my horrific post holiday tumble (in case you were wondering). Albeit menacing, they’re very comfortable.
Side note; make sure to pack lots of leisure clothes and comfy jammies on your trip to lounge at the cabin in. But, also probably some casual jeans, slacks or maybe a couple pantsuits - whatever, in case you do decide to go into town.
Anyway, once we got back to the cabin from our trip to Panacea (super strong & tasty coffee in hand) we got started preparing our late pancake breakfast.
As soon as we walked in the door we realized we had all the integral ingredients - except for syrup. Gasp!
But, not even a minute later the bf exclaimed they had syrup there in the cabin, already! It was nothing short of magical.
Not only did Nestled Inn the Woods have some extra syrup, they provided all the pots, pans, dishes, spatulas, and silverware we could ever need. There was even a super fancy cast iron skillet that cooked the pancakes to perfection!
After another day resting, noshing, and relaxing on the porch and by the fireplace - we had a fun evening by the outdoor fireplace roasting marshmallows and making gingerbread cookie s’mores.
Alas, our last day arrived - sigh.
It was then (upon checkout, after the bf steered me away from writing my memoirs in the guestbook) he confessed to me that he had lied to me about something when we first checked in. Turns out, there *was* a TV at the cabin, when he had (initially) said there was *no* TV. (It was (tastefully) hidden behind a wood panel.)
I ended up leaving him on the side of the freeway somewhere between Asheville & Waynesville and told him to think about what he had done.
Kidding - he’s home safe and sound & we actually both decided that we were glad we hadn’t used the TV at all (or our phones much for that matter) on our entire visit. It was *so* refreshing having the time and space to disconnect and soak in the crisp mountain air.
Nestled Inn the Woods is a lovely cabin in a beautiful, serene & secluded setting. Although we went in the Winter; it’s a must do all year long, and we could just image how beautiful it would be in the midst of summer among the greenery, too.
We were absolutely charmed.
