Fun Day in Flat Rock
I decided it was finally time to wash my hair & enjoy a fun day in Flat Rock, North Carolina.
Flat Rock is a sleepy little village about 45 minutes South of Asheville.
It’s been dubbed “Little Charleston” because back in the day, people from Charleston used to summer in FR to enjoy the temperate climate & fresh mountain air.
Fun fact; it’s also used to be a haven for people that had Malaria - also to enjoy the temperate climate & fresh mountain air. (Obviously, way before the joys of modern medicine!)
So not only is the Village of Flat Rock super cute with its adorable and colorful shops & restaurants - there is a *ton* of civil war history.
For example, if you look hard enough you will find “Robert E.
Lee Drive”. Believe it or not - he used to have a huge home that
overlooked Flat Rock!
Since Bob (as I like to call him) no longer resides there - I suggest we rename the road to “Taylor Swift Trail”.
Anyway, my first stop of my daytrip was to the Flat Rock Village Bakery.
Not only does the bakery have omg delish baked goods, they also have nomz pizza and some pretty bomb salads. You can order online/over the phone and pick up curbside.
But, if you *are* getting confections - I definitely suggest going inside so you can gawk at the pastry case. (Just don’t gawk too long since only one person is allowed inside the bakery at a time - 2020 virus rules.)
I enjoyed my Vegan Macaroon & Cold Brew with Almond Milk out on the patio. It was the perfect afternoon pick me up.
Dessert before dinner. Yessss.
Next it was over to Dogwood - Mountain Inspired Provisions for some shopping. They have a nice selection of the most adorbs goods - such as inspirational ceramics, #local handcrafted pottery, and salt & pepper shakers with the perfect amount of kitsch.
The Dogwood is a great place to pick up gifts galore.
Bonus; they have a 'shop cat'.
When I was shopping he was chilling on the checkout counter - sadly he had disappeared when I went to pay for my purchase.
...Only to reappear on the porch staring at me from beyond (beyond the chair on the patio that is).
Post shopping, I enjoyed a *delightful* solo dinner at Campfire Grill (also out on their patio). I made the Southwestern Veggie Burger southern (& vegan) by subbing the aioli sauce for sweet bbq sauce & side of rosemary fries.
It paired well with the Hi Pitch Beer by Asheville's High Wire brewing.
Overall, Campfire Grill has a super cute ambiance and extremely friendly staff.
Next, I headed over to the Saint Paul Mountain Vineyard's Tasting Room - where I enjoyed a super fancy glass of Cabernet Franc on their patio.
Since the fall weather is beginning to set in there was a lovely breeze. I’m sure if I had Malaria it would have been a real treat.
I feel like Flat Rock has a lot of patios. Which is great because well ya know... covid.
Some stops I didn’t have time for on my day out in Flat Rock
(but are visit worthy); Honey & Salt, The Gallery at Flat Rock, The
Wrinkled Egg & The Firefly Craft Galley.
So what are you waiting for? Set aside your fears that the world is coming to an end, for a few hours - & enjoy a fun filled day in Flat Rock!
